Monkey Island is the collective name given to a series of five graphical adventure games produced and published by LucasArts, originally known as LucasFilm Games through the development of the first game in the series. The fifth installment of the franchise was developed by Telltale Games in collaboration with LucasArts. The games follow the misadventures of the hapless Guybrush Threepwood as he struggles to become the most notorious pirate in the Caribbean, defeat the plans of the evil undead pirate LeChuck and win the heart of governor Elaine Marley. Each game's plot usually involves the mysterious Monkey Island and its impenetrable secrets.

PC Retro

  1. Retro PC game of the week – the Birth of an Adventurer

The Atari 800XL was the first PC
Pirates Cove was the first game

The Atari 800XL was the third version of the Atari 8-bit line of computers introduced in 1983. The system contained a full 64K of memory, had all the standard VLSI chips (Antic, GTIA, Pokey, PIA) and was in a smaller and more compact design.
Scott Adams Adventure Series – Text base game
Born in Miami, Florida, Adams was the first person known to create an adventure-style game for personal computers, in 1978 on a 16KB Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I, written in the BASIC programming language. Colossal Cave was a year earlier, but on a mainframe, the PDP-10. These early text adventure games use a minimal parser, recognizing 2-word commands of the form VERB NOUN. Scott had access to an advanced 16 bit computer at home, built by Richard Adams, that gave him a jump on game programming in his leisure time.

Scott Adams's original twelve adventure games were:

  • Adventureland (computer game): Explore a fantasy landscape and collect thirteen treasures.

  • Pirate Adventure (also called Pirate's Cove): Hunt for lost pirate treasure.

  • Secret Mission (originally called Mission Impossible): Prevent terrorists from destroying a nuclear reactor.

  • Voodoo Castle: Free a count from a voodoo curse.

  • Strange Odyssey: Explore strange planets and collect treasure.

  • Mystery Fun House: Capture secret plans hidden in a fun house.

  • Pyramid of Doom: Plunder an Egyptian pyramid.

  • Ghost Town: Search a Western ghost town for treasure.

  • Savage Island parts I & II: The most challenging adventure games, you are not even aware of the adventure's goal. If you complete part one, you are given the password to play the second part.

  • The Golden Voyage: Sail the world and find the fountain of youth.

    Rock n Roll -

    Music/Song/Artist topics of the week.

(Black Sabbath , Heaven & Hell, Rainbow, Elf) who passed away from metastasized stomach cancer this past May 16th. Check out members of Rob Zombie, Killswitch Engage and Godsmack paying homage to the metal icon here

    • Former Dio guitarist Rowan Robertson has an unheard recording of his boss in action – but he’ll never release it from his private collection.
    b) Artist/Song of the week: this segment covers a highlighted Artist/Song

Ronnie James Dio/Ronald James Padavona Dio died of stomach cancer on May 16, 2010
Singing Yin and Yang: this segment covers the “not my type” of music but will listen to the song

The song has, in the past, been modified to fit the boundaries of genres like country, folk, gospel an techno. As "God's Gonna Cut You Down", it was performed by Odetta on Odetta Sings Ballads and Blues (1956) and Johnny Cash on the posthumously released American V: A Hundred Highways (2006). As "Run On", it was recorded, among others, by Elvis Presley. A version incorporating sampled vocals by Bill Landford & The Landfordaires was included on Moby's album Play. The Blind Boys of Alabama also included the song on their Grammy-winning album "Spirit of the Century" in 2001. In 2007, Kevin Max of dc Talk covered the song as "Run on for a Long Time" with Chris Sligh.

American V: A Hundred Highways is a posthumous album by Johnny Cash released on July 4, 2006. As the title implies, it is the fifth entry in Cash's American series.
